Thermal (Dry)

A Thermal (Dry) Test Manikin is a precision-engineered, electrically heated human simulation system designed to evaluate the thermal insulation, heat transfer characteristics, and protective performance of clothing and personal protective equipment (PPE) under controlled laboratory conditions.

Unlike sweating manikins, the dry system operates without moisture generation and focuses solely on sensible heat transfer (conduction, convection, and radiation). The manikin surface temperature is maintained at a constant preset value (typically 34–35°C to simulate human skin temperature), and the electrical power required to sustain this temperature is measured to determine thermal resistance (clo value) and insulation performance.
