Description

The Cone Calorimeter is a widely used fire testing instrument that measures the heat release rate and smoke production of materials exposed to controlled radiant heat. Based on the oxygen consumption calorimetry principle, it determines heat release by analyzing the reduction in oxygen concentration and the flow rate of combustion gases. Smoke production is measured through the attenuation of a laser beam passing through the exhaust gases. The system continuously records heat release and smoke generation throughout the entire test duration, regardless of whether flaming occurs.

Technical Specification :

  • Conical Heater – Heater element wound in the form of a truncated cone rated 5000 watts at 230Volts with the Radiative Heat flux of 100 kW/m2.
  • Temperature Controller – 3 K-type thermocouples.
  • Exhaust System – Made of the heat resistant Grade of Stainless Steel for the longer life, Consists of Hood, Exhaust fan (capable of producing flow from 0.012-0.035 m3/s), orifice Plate flow meter.
  • Gas Sampler – Ring type Gas Sampler along with the soot filters, cold trap etc. to reduce the temperature of the exhaust gas for the precise measurements.
  • Load Cell – Accuracy of 0.1gm and capacity 6 kg.
    Radiation Shield – To protect the Specimen from the radiation before the start of the test, important for the specimens which ignite prematurely upon radiation exposure.
  • Spark Igniter – A 10kV discharge across a 3mm Spark Gap located 13mm above the center of the specimen and It will be supplied with automatic positioning.
  • Oxygen Sensor – Paramagnetic oxygen sensor ( Servomex – UK, make with the detection Range from 0-25%.
  • Heat Flux Meter – Used for maintaining the required radiation level at the surface of the Specimen
    Calibration Burner – To calibrate the Heat Release Rate Apparatus using 99.5% pure methane.
  • Sample Thickness -Sample Thickness up to 50mm
  • CO and CO2 sensors (Optional at extra cost) – NDIR CO gas sensor with range 0-1% and NDIR CO2 gas sensor with range 0-10%.
  • Differential Pressure Transducer – Range 0-500Pa and Accuracy 0.25%
  • Machine will be supplied as per ASTM E1354, ISO 5660-1 and EN-45545-2.

  • The graphical recording would be done for the Heat Release Rate with Time.
  • Automatic report generation when you stop the test.
